CCNY Recognized as Network Security Leader
Business Solutions magazine, in its May 2007 edition, has announced CCNY (Computer Connection of NY) as its winner of the Channel Innovator Award in Network Security.
CCNY has been recognized for combining its knowledge of government regulatory compliance and network security. CCNY was specifically cited for its work with Pascack Valley High School in New Jersey and the integration of a unified threat management solution using Cyberoam; an identity-based network security appliance.

CCNY, an industry leading independent provider of network security and efficiency products, teamed-up with Cyberoam to provide a solution to meet the mandates of the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). CIPA is federal law enacted in 2000 to address concerns about internet access and offensive content on school and library networks and computers. The Cyberoam solution allowed the school districts to maintain its CIPA compliance and keep its E-Rate federal funding. Without CIPA compliance, that E-Rate funding is at risk.
Pascack Valley High School also implemented wireless network access for its students and faculty. It needed to find a security solution to maintain CIPA compliance and give the school the ability to provide secure network access, regardless of the student’s location. The district’s legacy software and network did not allow this. CCNY’s solution allowed the network administrator to assign security profiles based on each user.
Since the profiles are based on the user, not the location, students and faculty can log on to the network at any location and their security credentials will move with them. This is very helpful since most students share computers and use different computers throughout the day. CCNY’s approach to mobility and security throughout the campus was both unique and cost effective to the school district. It has allowed the district to implement cutting-edge technology to aid in the instruction of the student body and generate a new level of interest with those students.
