Ongoing tests with the Cisco 3G60 engine supported broadband processing connections at speeds a well up to a 1.5 Gbps are underway. The company Cisco has announced it today that it is in collaboration with the Virgin Media group to enhance further the network of the company by the use of deploying DOCSIS’s network infrastructure which already exists. In a test-run which occurred in East London, the company Virgin Media succeeded in achieving a ground-breaking broadband speed to well up to 1.6 GB by the use of the 3g60 Broadband Processing Engine by Cisco, which is a cost-effective and high-density line card which is used for the company Cisco’s premier uBR10k UBR (Universal Broadband Router) and CMTS (Cable Model Termination System).

The high-lights include the fact that a significant component of the complete DOCSIS (R) 3.0 by Cisco solution, the very scalable line-card (3g60) ables the operators of cable television so that they can offer video services of IP. The Cisco UBR (Universal Broadband Router) along with the line-card 3g60 support the complete set of the DOCSIS 3.0 with all its features on scale, which include the IPv6, along with support for more advanced features like sharing of dynamic bandwidth. Also with using the line-card 3g60, one Cisco UBR is able to support as much as 676 channels which are downstream and 480 channels which are upstream per chassis. This is of course the most density and capacity for CMTS in the entire industry.

The VP and the general manager of the Cable Access Business Unit (CABU) of Cisco said that Cisco’s solutions provided by its CMTS by design support large-scale video services and IP broadband services today, along with the impending switch to IP network which is set to occur in the not-so-distant future. He said that Cisco was proud in its helping of Virgin Media to achieve such groundbreaking milestones with the company’s broadband connecting speeds and network capacity.

The Virgin Media group is the pioneering provider encompassing all 4 broadband, mobile phones, television and phone at homes services when it comes to the United Kingdom. The company is known for its mega-fast broadband connection covering around 50 percent of all the homes in the United Kingdom, with speeds reaching upto a 100 megabytes in connection, and is now in expansion of their cable network, the consequences of an investment in multiple billions of pounds, so that the company is able to connection thousands of more individuals across the United Kingdom. The company has come up with the single most advanced television service which is interactive, and has consequently brought together broadcasted television, the best of the offerings of the internet and thousands upon thousands of hours of the most demanded television programming all in a one top-setted box which is powered by the technology called TiVo.

Virgin Media operates also the single most popular mobile network inside the United Kingdom which is virtual and which was, when launched, the whole world’s pioneering such kind of a cellphone service.
Cisco Systems is the global leader when it comes to creating networking which transforms the way people connect, collaborate and communicate with each other.

Fortinet FortiMail Earns 13th Consecutive Virus Bulletin Antispam Award

Monday, August 15th, 2011

Fortinet’s FortiMail messaging security appliance has recently earned its 13th consecutive Virus Bulletin certification in the VBSpam Awards. During the Virus Bulletin test, more than 20,000 spam messages were sent a day to the FortiMail appliance. FortiMail caught 99.79% of the spam emails!

Virus Bulletin staff tested FortiMail along with 17 other antispam products from multiple countries for spam catch rates and false positive rates. In addition to winning its 13th consecutive award, the report noted that FortiMail was “one of just four products that did not block any legitimate emails.”

Additional FortiMail Benefits:

No per-user licensing eliminates need to change license as your network grows
* Identity-based encryption of mail without any additional hardware, software, user provisioning or licensing costs
* Advanced inspection capabilities eliminates message-based threats before they can affect your users
* Advanced messaging content archiving, quarantining, and routing capabilities help achieve regulatory compliance

CCNY on Customer Service

Monday, August 8th, 2011

Recently, a customer contacted Computer Connection of CNY (CCNY) on a Friday night around 10:30 pm. The customer was dealing with a defective power supply in an end of life (EOL) IBM tape drive. This IBM machine was located in California and was a key part of their national network. After a long night of phone calls, CCNY located a spare power supply and deployed two maintenance technicians to their location the very next day to replace it. The customer was astonished with the level of customer service provided, especially since it was a Saturday afternoon.

For over the past 20 years, CCNY’s first priority has been and continues to be building long-term customer relationships; it’s the most important and vital service we provide. When you partner with us, you can expect an elite team of dedicated, experienced professionals eager to provide you with the right support to determine your specific needs and execute your goals on schedule and on budget.

Customer service is defined as a series of activities designed to enhance the level of customer satisfaction- it’s that feeling you get when a product or service has met or exceeded your expectation. Does your current supplier continue to assist you long after the initial transaction is completed? If you called them with an emergency at 10:30pm on a Friday night, are you confident they would pick up the phone? CCNY does.

Hurdles with Electronics Recycling

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

In the past, CCNY has always traded in systems from Sun Microsystems, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and Cisco whether they were used or not. As a result, there’s a surplus of systems that are no longer in high demand, yet we have a significant quantity of them. So what do we do with these systems? Recycling the systems was an obvious answer, as it keeps our landfills clear of the hazardous materials that are contained in everyday computers and servers, and we’ve decided to take this route to better our world while creating a new venture for our business.

Since the labor to recycle computer components is very intensive, unless you’re tearing down systems in large quantities, the recycling business is not all that profitable. In fact, to be at all profitable, the components must be completely disassembled and sorted into as many categories as possible to get them down to their basic forms (gold, silver, copper, etc.) Of course, some computers are worth more than others. A pound of computer hardware isn’t a determination of value, many other factors such as the number of CPUs, thickness of circuit boards, number of power supplies and casing material all influence the required labor and profitability. This is where we come into play. By taking small quantities of used and unwanted systems from local businesses and various agencies, combining them and then tearing them down we feel that we can not only create a new service but also do our part to help save the planet.

To date CCNY has recycled approximately 120,000lbs of electronics waste so far.

Expanding Fujitsu Business

Friday, July 29th, 2011

CCNY has been reselling used Sun Microsystems for over 20 years. Over the past 10 years a great deal of effort has been made to build it’s business outside of the Sun offerings. We have built a strong business reselling, HP, Dell, IBM, and Cisco. We have also built CCNY’s “Best of Breed” business. We have built relationships with technology leaders like Fortinet and Aruba Networks. While we have had great success outside of reselling Sun Microsystems equipment, a large portion of our customer base has remained loyal to using Sun Microsystems hardware.

CCNY often turns to our customers to understand where our next move to stay successful in a competitive market should be. What we found is that many of our customers are making a move to Fujitsu. Fujitsu has been making Sun Microsystems hardware for years. Many customers that were not happy working with Sun Microsystems, now Oracle, found that Fujitsu was easier to work with and sold the same quality hardware that they have been happy with for years.

CCNY has is directing a lot of energy and resources in to building this business. We have put in place a full time product manager to manage the business. We are working with several different partners to be able to offer extremely competitive pricing on the hardware and we have established relationships to help us offer 24x7x4 hour response maintenance and support for the Fujitsu hardware.

We are very excited to further expand our product line with Fujitsu enterprise servers. We are confident that we will build this business as we did all the others. I want to thank our customers for helping to build our business to expand and adapt into the future.
